The Orpea group continues to be in turmoil. New testimonies cast doubt this time on the practices of the 125 clinics of the group specializing in psychiatry or rehabilitation care. Here again, we discover operations that would be dictated by profitability to the detriment of patients.
The Orpea group manages retirement homes, but also clinics, with psychiatric establishments and others, specializing in follow-up care and rehabilitation. This branch, Clinea, is also the subject of accusations. When the mother of Yann Launay, 90, was operated on a year ago following a fracture of the neck of the femur, she was then transferred to a Clinea establishment. “She was there for a rehabilitation which she never benefited from”he declares, and denounces the lack of personnel.
A logic of profitability is also what Dr. Batel describes. This addiction psychiatrist worked from 2014 to 2017 in a clinic in the Paris region managed by Clinea. “Their strategy was very clear, (they had) an objective which was 100% of the occupancy rate”, says the former employee of the Orpea group. The concern for economy went as far as the menus “it’s a clinic for follow-up care in addictology, with patients who were beginning to recover (…) They were rationed at a scrap of bread per meal and per person”, he says. Contacted, the Orpea group denies these accusations.
