More than three out of ten French people will leave during these winter holidays according to a recent survey by Village Vacances VVF. The holidays started on February 5 with us, as in all of zone B. In February, there are always two teams: those who go to the mountains, to go skiing, it is the choice of nearly eight out of ten holidaymakers and then there are those who go to the sea, it is the second favorite destination for vacationers.
Tourists come to get away from it all with us, as in Saint-Brevin-les-Pins near Pornic, in Loire-Atlantique where they are much happier being by the sea, enjoying the spray, than being on the ski slopes.
Mélina and her husband, for example, end their walk along the beach. They walked for an hour and a half, with their feet in the water, before having lunch facing the ocean. “We are very seaside, we need to see the sea regularly while skiing is not our thing. I don’t like the cold already and then, I get away from it all with the sea“, describes Melina.
Arlette, 71 years old who is a regular at Saint-Brevin not going to say otherwise. “Skiing is something else, and at my age, it’s more risky. I did red runs in the past but not anymore. We like to come to the coast, we don’t live very far away so it’s quick and we like“, she believes.
Ski lifts are expensive
Despite everything, Kendy who picnics a little further with her parents admits it. He envies his friends who are in the mountains. “Who wouldn’t want to go skiing? To enjoy the snow, make snowballs, snowmen“, regrets this teenager.
He has two brothers and sisters, so inevitably, going skiing with four, it’s not the same budget for the dad, Bastien. “Accommodation is not the most expensive thing, but the ski lifts are expensive. There, for this day at the sea, the budget does not exceed 25 euros“, recognizes this father. And the sea in winter, it is especially much calmer than a ski resort.
