The Montreal Alouettes on Monday granted two-year contract extensions to running back William Stanback and linebacker Chris Ackie, in addition to granting a new one-year contract to wide receiver Jake Wieneke.
In the case of this one, the news confirms in a certain way the information diffused last weekend by some media. Wieneke, who could have taken advantage of the free agent market on Tuesday, agreed to a salary of $160,000 for the next season.
In his second campaign in the country, the 27-year-old led the Canadian Football League (CFL) with 11 touchdowns by air. He had 898 yards on 56 catches, earning him a CFL All-Star Team honour. Since his arrival in Montreal, he totaled 1467 yards and 19 majors.
Going back to Stanback, also a league all-star, he finished atop several categories, including rushing yards. His 1,176 yards allowed him to finish more than 300 yards ahead of his closest pursuer who played a game more than him. He added three rushing touchdowns.
For his part, Ackie dominated the Sparrows in 2021 with 48 defensive tackles in 14 games. He also had six quarterback sacks and two interceptions. In 79 league games, the former Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks made 202 defensive tackles.
Three other signatures
The team has also signed pacts with linebacker Kerfalla Exumé, offensive lineman Chris Schleuger, and quarterback Davis Alexander.
Exumé racked up 15 special teams tackles for the Alouettes last year, good for second place on the team behind Alexandre Gagné. The former University of Montreal Carabins has 40 special team tackles in 32 professional games.
Then, Schleuger will begin a third season with the club in 2022, he who has played 16 career games.
Finally, Alexander finished his college career ranked second in Portland State University Vikings history with 10,473 total rushing yards, 9,215 passing yards and 63 touchdowns. The 23-year-old was voted to the 2021 Big Sky Conference All-Star Team, completing 266 of 433 passes for 3,075 yards and 21 touchdowns.
