The Chicago Blackhawks have interviewed Peter Chiarelli for the job of general manager.
The “Hawks”, for the sake of transparency, confirmed it via their Twitter account on Sunday.
The Ontarian was general manager of the Boston Bruins from 2006 to 2015, winning a Stanley Cup in 2011.
Ten days after his dismissal, he had been hired by the Edmonton Oilers to occupy the same seat, this time knowing much less success. Notably responsible for the trade that sent Taylor Hall to the New Jersey Devils in return for Adam Larsson, Chiarelli was fired in January 2019. Last September, he found a job as vice president of hockey operations for the Blues. of St. Louis.
Several positions need to be filled in the Chicago training staff since the Brad Aldrich affair, which led to the resignation of general manager Stan Bowman and vice president of hockey operations Al MacIsaac. Bowman served in the role for nearly 12 seasons. He was blamed for trying to cover up the affair while his side were in the thick of their 2010 winning run.
Since Bowman’s departure, Kyle Davidson has served as interim CEO. The latter also obtained an interview for the vacant position, as did the assistant general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, Eric Tulsky, and the ex-right arm of Marc Bergevin with the Habs, Scott Mellanby.
Last week, the Blackhawks announced that their ex-players Eddie Olczyk, Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp would form a group of advisers who would help them find a new general manager.
