More and more industrial companies are trying to reduce the carbon footprint caused by their activity, such as the emblematic ArcelorMittal factories in Dunkirk (North).
Visiting Dunkirk (North) on an ArcelorMittal site, Friday February 4, Jean Castex announced an investment plan for the next five years, of the order of 5.6 billion euros, “to decarbonize our industry“. In detail, 5 billion euros will be allocated to innovations on industrial sites. The remaining 600 million euros will be aimed at seeking new, less polluting technologies.
Chemistry, metallurgy and materials production are the three sectors mainly concerned by this plan. And for good reason, they represent 72% of greenhouse gas emissions. ArcelorMittal, for its part, intends to take the opportunity to abandon coal and adopt hydrogen. On the side of the employees of these sectors, these decisions make them want to “continue to invest in their profession and move forward” for decarbonization.
