Michel Mompontet presents several nuggets this week, including a disc by Nikolaï Lugansky and a book on music in the 20th century.
The disc of the week is signed Nikolai Lugansky: Beethoven Piano Sonatas (Harmonia Mundi). “It’s the return of the great prince, the great tsar of the piano. He returns with the Clair de lune and the Appassionata, always with the same sense of measure, of balance, of light”, explains the journalist from France Télévisions, Michel Mompontet. He will be in concert on March 4 at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées (Paris).
The Paris Opera produces a Don Giovanni by Mozart. “The composer’s darkest, most disturbing opera. An opera whose theme is the violence of a man perpetrated on women”says Michel Mompontet.
Finally, in the book section, a guide to classical music, written by Karol Beffa: L’Autre XXème siècle musical (Buchet Chastel). “This book brings us closer to what 20th century music has had in relation to the pleasure of listening to music, to melody”concludes Michel Mompontet.
