The world of rugby can hold many surprises. If sometimes the stories are quite light, like this young player forgotten on a motorway service area by his team, there are much more serious cases. If the president of the French Rugby Federation Bernard Laporte has been worried by the justice recently, a player of the France team has just been found guilty by the justice for a series of alleged burglaries in 2014.
The player in question is called mohamed haouas and he is one of the newcomers to the Blues since he started in 2020, but already has 12 caps with Fabien Galthié’s team. The 27-year-old pillar was tried by the Montpellier Criminal Court this morning as part of 5 burglaries perpetrated in 2014, when he was only 19 years old. The player who has always denied the facts who are accused of him chose to remain silent during the judgment, as explained by the newspaper L’Equipe.
I grew up in a rough neighborhood, it was a vicious cycle
Mohamed Haouas has a criminal record for theft and driving without a license. The rugby player notably spoke about the mistakes he may have made. “I’m 100% sorry, I was young. I was easily influenced (…) I grew up in a difficult neighborhood, it was a vicious circle, either you stay or you escape”he explains, assuring all the same that he has “always had the objective of moving forward”. After deliberation, the athlete was recognized “guilty” of the facts of which he is accused by the president of the Montpellier criminal court, who sentenced him to 18 months suspended prison sentence and 15,000 euros in fines.
When he left the court, Mohamed Haouas said he was “relieved” that this story ends and his lawyer, master Gallix, has informed that he will not appeal the decision.
