This is a new step in the fight against Covid-19. Paxlovid is now available in pharmacies, only for immunocompromised people. This drug can, if taken in time, stop the progression of the virus.
It’s a small box that could change the daily lives of 300,000 French people whose bodies are fragile, the immunocompromised. Paxlovid, an anti-Covid tablet, slows the progression of the disease as soon as it is contaminated. France is the first country in Europe to authorize its sale, and to obtain it, a simple prescription will not be enough, an additional authorization will be requested by the attending physician.
The immunocompromised represent 20% of people in intensive care. The arrival of a drug, effective against all known variants, is therefore a relief. Paxlovid could not be given to the whole population, because this tablet has many adverse effects, much more than the vaccine, according to the scientists. For now, France has ordered 500,000 doses of Paxlovid.
