European leaders follow one another at the bedside of Ukraine. After the trip planned by Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will travel to Kiev on February 14, before meeting with the Russian President in Moscow on February 15, the Kremlin announced on Friday February 4.

The stated objective is toachieve a general de-escalation of tensions between Russians and Westerners around Ukraine, as Russia deploys tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine’s borders, raising fears of an invasion.

Relations between Germany and Russia have deteriorated further in recent days, since the Kremlin announced the closure of the Russian office of German radio and television Deutsche Welle, in retaliation for banning Russian channel RT in Germany. A closure denounced as “unacceptable” by the European Union.

These announcements also come after explosive American accusations. The Pentagon claimed Thursday, February 3, without providing evidence, that Moscow reportedly considered filming a fake Ukrainian attack on Russia to invade its neighbor. Le Kremlin called on Friday to “not to take your word for it” these charges.
