After an All Stars season which was a hit with the audience, Koh Lanta signs its big comeback for a new season called The Cursed Totem and broadcast from Tuesday February 22, 2022 on TF1. An edition that promises, as every year, many surprises. Viewers but also the twenty-four adventurers, twelve women and twelve men, will thus discover the novelties imagined by the production. Direction the Philippines, 14 years after the last filming on location!
The Cursed Totem, the object that changes the game
Each year, the fundamentals of Koh Lanta are mixed with novelties. There have been Secret Weapons, The 4 Lands… and now the cursed totem. This is the “evil twin” from the program’s signature immunity totem. The goal is therefore to avoid having it and for that, it is important not to arrive last during an event. The sentence will then be harsh for the losers: “A curse will fall in several forms, from the first day to the thirty-ninth day of the adventure!“This cursed totem even makes Denis Brogniart tremble, who specifies that”At no moment [il] won’t touch him“.”It will be passed from hand to hand by those who will unfortunately have to suffer the curse“, he specifies.
Candidates from the canceled season in the casting
The goal is to win at all costs. And the twenty-four adventurers in the running promise major battles. The TF1 host announces “very high level of performance, a very good commitment of the adventurers in the events and magnificent fights between the teams then individually“. And before accessing the orienteering race and the mythical poles, you will have to prove yourself in different events, including many new ones… and an emblematic one that is finally making a comeback, that of tasting ! All are ready, and among the cast adventurers are some alumni of the edition canceled in 2019. The production wishes to preserve their anonymity in order to allow them to fully experience this adventure. Especially since, as Denis Brogniart points out, they derive no benefit from their first experience, which was stopped prematurely.
Filming delayed due to weather conditions
Even before the shooting of this Koh-Lanta, The Cursed Totem, and in addition to the already restrictive Covid-19 protocol, production faced difficulties. As Alexia Laroche-Joubert recounts during the press conference, the teams of ALP, the company producing the survival game, had to deal with “titanic bad weather and deluges of water“which had serious consequences.”We had to delay the shooting“, she explains. Finally, the shooting was able to start in the North West of Palawan, in a “extremely steep area, with rocks that throw themselves into the sea and turquoise waters“. For his part, Julien Magne evokes “bad weather, a lot of rain, at times heavy tropical rains but also high temperatures, good weather…“In short, Bacuit Bay offers a”wide catalog of climatic conditions“. The jungle also allows cohabitation with animals, especially monkeys… or snakes. It’s promising!
See you from 9:05 p.m. on TF1 every Tuesday from February 22, 2022 to follow Koh-Lanta, The Cursed Totem.
