For months, Pfizer conducted trials on nearly 4,600 children and the results were validated by authorities nationwide. “They show that the vaccine is 90.7% effective,” observes Professor Janet Woodcock of the US drug agency.
28 million young Americans could be affected, but the dosages will be different. One injection of Pfizer concentrates 30 micrograms of vaccine per adult, which will be three times less for a child. In France, should we follow the American example? “There is no urgent need in France today to vaccinate 5-11 year olds”, says pediatrician Robert Cohen, president of the Pediatric Infectious Pathology Group (GPIP). In France, admissions have increased by 30% in a week, so for other specialists, vaccinating the youngest could prevent a new wave.
