Plantu pays tribute to caregivers with an exhibition at the Saint-Etienne University Hospital

Tribute to caregivers, thus Plantu titled his new exhibition of drawings. A series produced from the first confinement and continued for two years to say thank you to those who work behind the scenes. After Dijon, Créteil, Toulouse or Strasbourg, Plantu went to the CHU of Saint-Etienne, in the Loire, for its inauguration.

Since August 2020, the famous press cartoonist who officiated at the newspaper The world, narrates the commitment of medical personnel in the face of the health crisis. He wanted to donate his sketches to hospitals and is going on tour across France to meet and thank, in his own way, these staff. “in the first line”.

So these are the works that reach the CHU of Saint-Étienne in the Loire, where they were warmly welcomed by the entire team of the establishment. “It’s very moving, many of us here are absolute fans of Plantu. It’s an approach that touches us and he does it in his own way, all in nuance, in nice caricature, in accuracy of analysis” , says Professor Thierry Thomas, before adding, “Morally it matters a lot for people who are starting to tire”. The exhibition, which brings together no less than 50 drawings, offers “a chronological comparison in order to grasp the challenge of the daily life of hospitals and nursing staff”.

During the inauguration on February 1, many curious people came to find this little stroke of the pen which casts an unequivocal look at a grating reality. “Plantu’s little humorous touch, I like it. It’s infuriating and yes… it’s causing big debates”, notes a visitor. Fifty years on the front page of the newspaper The worldcollaborations with the weekly The Express and for the show Right of reply made his trait instantly recognizable to everyone. “I smiled, I gritted my teeth a little, but it’s truths that are good to say”, assures a visitor.

In the hall of the hospital, the draftsman does not hesitate to comment on his drawings. “It’s a nice way of saying things about a subject that is quite heavy for caregivers to bear”, he explains in front of his drawing with the evocative slogan of “It’s not because we’re on strike that you’re waiting, it’s because you’re waiting that we’re on strike”. After the exhibition, the hospital will keep these boards to then exhibit them elsewhere but always behind its walls.
