The public prosecutor’s office in Béthune (Pas-de-Calais) opened an investigation after the knife attack on a bus driver from the Tadao network by a passenger in Avion, near Lens, reports France Bleu Nord on Wednesday February 2. The unions have been exercising their right of withdrawal since Wednesday and intend to continue it this Thursday.
This 45-year-old driver was taken to hospital in serious condition but his life prognosis is not at stake. Around 4:30 p.m., he was stabbed three times by a passenger who had not accepted that the driver asked him to put out his joint inside the bus. The attacker is on the run. One of the driver’s colleagues was present at the time of the attack and was taken care of, in a state of shock.
“It is an act of exceptional gravity”, reacts the director of the operator of the Tadao Transdev network, Jean-Christophe Géhin. The unions, which are demanding more protection, and the management met on Wednesday evening. Drivers will therefore exercise their right of withdrawal this Thursday and no bus will leave the Hénin-Beaumont, Bruay, Lens and Béthune depots. A psychological help cell will be set up from the start of the day.
