After the boom in creek attendance over the past two summers, an unprecedented decision has been made. From now on, to access the Calanque de Sugiton in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), you will need to have a visitor’s permit beforehand. A first experiment which aims to preserve biodiversity.
The Calanque de Sugiton in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) will reserve its splendor for those who will present their visitor’s permit from next summer. Reservations will be made on the internet, otherwise you will have to turn around. That “will limit attendance at Sugiton to 400 or 500 people”explains Didier Réault, president of the Calanques national park.
The objective is to preserve biodiversity by reducing frequentation. The experience is a first in France. “I think it’s a bad idea because anyway people are not going to respect and secondly it’s unfreedom”, judges a man. The measure could be extended to other creeks to limit overcrowding since the health crisis. The first tests will take place during the weekend of May or June at the Calanque de Sugiton. Checks are provided to verify the pass of each visitor.
