A ninth charge, this time of attempted rape, has just been added to Benjamin Mendy’s file by the Chester court on Wednesday February 2 during a preliminary hearing. The French defender, who arrived wearing a gray suit, was already accused of seven rapes and an assault before this new charge was brought against him.
The court also set the date for the trial of the former Marseille. It will start on July 25 and is expected to last six weeks. Benjamin Mendy, who spent four months in pre-trial detention, has been on bail since January 8. He will have to appear before the Court again on March 11 for a procedural hearing. The Frenchman, suspended since the end of August by his Manchester City club, will be tried for acts which extend from the end of 2020 to August 2021, some of which were perpetrated at his home in Prestbury, Cheshire. He faces up to a life sentence.
