The artist Stromae has finally come out of silence about his highly commented performance at 8 p.m. on TF1 on January 9. In front of Anne-Claire Coudray and in this very traditional format of the JT of the First channel, the 36-year-old Belgian singer had answered a question from the journalist by interpreting his song Hell.
As a reminder, this title speaks of the depression experienced by the singer when he contracted a virus in Rwanda. The latter evokes the feeling of loneliness and the suicidal thoughts that he faces since. The singer wanted to raise public awareness of the ordeal of depressive disorders. Surprising his world and provoking an avalanche of both positive and negative reactions, Stromae returned for the first time to this happening for Belgian radio Bel RTL.
Far from imagining the buzz what this performance was going to engender, the artist took the news rather well, “so much the better“if it can speak of a”subject that can sometimes be taboo“. Nevertheless, disconcerted by the negative reviews, the interpreter ofThen we dance, defended himself:I find that an artist who comes to promote his album and his new song, it does not deserve so many questions. I would have been a politician, I can understand. But the…“Finally, the latter went backstage on this surprising sequence, to say the least. The element that raised the most questions was whether the production and the presenter were accomplices of the artist: “I didn’t know the questions that Anne-Claire Coudray was going to ask, except the one that launched the happening, so the song.”
Hell, already ranked number 1 on all streaming platforms in France, is taken from Stromae’s next album Multitude, to be released on March 4, 2022. This album will mark the return of Stromae 9 years after the international success of Square root which had sold 2.5 million copies.
