It’s a big family of artists. Son of screenwriter, director, producer and press officer Chantal Poupaud, Melvil Poupaud was immersed in the world of cinema very early on. Introduced to the seventh art by the critic Serge Daney, he was attracted to the big screen from an early age. Promoting the film The Young Lovers, by Carine Tardieu – which will be released in theaters on February 2, 2022 -, the 49-year-old comedian went for a ride on the show C to you, on France 5, with his fictitious partner Fanny Ardant. He then had the right to archive images that plunged him, as a child, into a completely different universe: that of music.
My brother still has this joie de vivre that characterizes him
Melvil Poupaud is an actor, of course, but he has more than one string to his bow. He has also released five albums, most of which he worked with his brother Yarol – guitarist, among others, of Johnny Hallyday. On the set of C to you, the columnist Mohamed Bouhafsi therefore shared an INA documentary dating from the year 1979, featuring the two brothers. One was trying to recognize a musical instrument, without seeing it, by listening to the sound it makes. The other burst out laughing, surprised by the thunderous sound of a gong. “I haven’t seen her for ages, recalled Anna-Livia’s dad. I don’t know how I got this tennis player’s sweater. Never two without three
Yarol and Melvil share an intimate complicity, often around a few guitar riffs. They are also not the only music lovers in the family since they have a brother, baptized César, who is a doctor in mathematics, a teacher… and a musician! They had formed, all together, the group black kitty in 2011 and had released their first EP the following year, in March 2012. The music in the skin…
