Almost a year to the day after the coup d’etat that put an end to hopes of democratization in Burma, the military junta continues to terrorize civilians who are determined not to let it go any longer.

It has been almost a year since the military junta seized power in Burma. Aung Myo Min, Minister of Human Rights for the Burmese government in exile was invited to discuss this sad first anniversary with franceinfo. He notably mentioned the intensification of violence on the part of the military power, which must deal with the civilian populations who are rebelling. “Former soldiers have joined us because they no longer want to participate in these crimes that they are ordered“, he adds.

On the same day, the UN expressed its wish to investigate crimes against humanity perpetrated in Burma. “This is good news, but it should have been done sooner. In the country, the military kill every day“, annoys the Burmese Minister for Human Rights “government of national unity” in exile. “How many days will we have to wait? How many more people will be killed before we see the UN act to put an end to these acts of barbarism by the military junta. We need to act. We need action now“, thunders Aung Myo Min.
