After hosting the Tokyo Games last summer with many drastic health restrictions, Japan was to host the World Long Course Swimming Championships in Fukuoka from May 13 to 29. The International Swimming Federation (Fina) announced on Tuesday February 1 to postpone the competition for a year.
In its press release, the Fina explains that it has granted the request of the Japanese organizers, subject to a still uncertain health situation.
“Given the current pandemic situation and the measures in place in Japan, FINA and key stakeholders of the Fukuoka 2022 Organizing Committee have agreed to postpone the 19th FINA World Championships to July 14-30, 2023.”

Under the effect of this change of calendar, the world championships in Doha (Qatar), initially scheduled for 2023, will be rescheduled in January 2024, less than six months from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
The 19th FINA World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, have been rescheduled to 14-30 July 2023, with the 20th FINA World Championships in Doha, Qatar, moved to 2024.
