The Director General of the National Police Frédéric Veaux has decided not to sanction the two CRS involved in the tear gas grenade that killed Zineb Redouane in December 2018 on the sidelines of a demonstration of “yellow vests” in Marseille, says France Inter Saturday, October 30. In addition, the author of the grenade fire was identified by the General Inspectorate of the National Police learned from France Inter confirming information from Frédéric Charpier’s book, IGPN, an institution above all suspicion?, to be released next week.
Frédéric Veaux estimated that at nightfall, the noise, the smoke and the insurrectionary atmosphere of the demonstration of the “yellow vests” can explain the lack of discernment of the two men. It therefore decided only to have them follow a compulsory continuing education course.
The DGPN therefore did not follow the opinion of the IGPN which recommended sending the author of the shooting and his supervisor to a disciplinary council for their lack of discernment, according to information from France Inter. In her administrative report submitted last summer, the director of the General Inspectorate of the National Police, Brigitte Jullien, considered that the grenade firing was regulatory but risky and unsuitable, since it was in the direction of a building located only about thirty meters away.
If the administrative investigation into the death of Zineb Redouane is therefore closed, the judicial investigation, conducted from Lyon, continues. The conclusions of the IGPN report were sent to the Lyon examining magistrate in charge of the case.
Zineb Redouane, 80, was hit in the head by a tear gas canister as she closed the shutters of her 4th floor apartment. She was seriously injured and succumbed to her injuries the next day in hospital during her operation.
