The National Assembly, the SPVQ and the SQ are on high alert due to rumors of a demonstration this weekend in the Capitale-Nationale.
A convoy could leave the North Shore on Thursday to head for Quebec. Trucks from Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean would also make the trip. Some of the demonstrators in Ottawa have also decided to come and protest in front of the National Assembly.
In a press briefing on Monday, the Quebec Minister of Transport, François Bonnardel, said that the government did not want overflows if there was a demonstration by truckers in Quebec.
For his part, the leader of the Conservative Party of Quebec, Éric Duhaime, supported the demands of the truckers, while expressing the wish that a possible demonstration take place peacefully.
“If the truckers went to the streets to make a convoy, it’s because we have ramparts in our democracy, which were to defend our democratic system and our civil rights, which have failed miserably,” said Mr. Duhaime.
“We cannot continue to prevent Quebec from living to save the health care system forever,” he added.
