(La Paz) At least 11 people died and 18 were injured when a coach ended its run on a precipice in the Cochabamba region of central Bolivia on Saturday, local authorities said.

“An investigation is underway into the causes” of the accident, said Rensso Elwis Mercado, transport director of Cochabamba.
Authorities did not say how many passengers were in the vehicle, which fell 400 meters into the void. It connected the town of Kami to the regional capital, located some 160 kilometers to the east.
“The driver is one of the injured. He will be able to help us remove many doubts. Without waiting, we are carrying out an investigation, ”said Mr. Mercado on a local television channel.
According to the latest figures available from the National Institute of Statistics, 1,096 people died and 10,313 were injured in road accidents in 2020 in Bolivia. That year, 13,741 traffic accidents were recorded.
