Awarded to the “most remarkable French-language children’s book of the year”, the 2021 TD Prize for Canadian Literature for Children and Youth was presented Thursday to Quebec author and illustrator Vigg for his album My head house.
The book, intended for an audience of 6 years and over, makes a foray into Vincent’s mind. “My house is my head. I have lived there since my birth. I think I know it like the back of my hand, but it’s very large and I’m still discovering new pieces in it. Sometimes I get lost, ”says the hero. In My head house, the young boy tries in particular to understand why he is able to tell the story of a film in the smallest details, but that he freezes when he has to recite a text learned by heart.
My head house, autobiographical album published in 2020 by Éditions Fonfon, tackles attention deficit disorder in an original and colorful way. A TV series based on the book is currently in development, the author announced on social media earlier this fall.
The prize, along with a $ 50,000 grant, was presented in a virtual ceremony as part of the Toronto International Writers’ Festival.
My head house is also nominated for the 2021 Governor General’s Literary Awards in the Children’s Literature – Illustrated Books category. The winners will be announced on November 17th.
