Danielle Fichaud and Sylvain Marcel are named thanks to their performance in the film Aline, by Valérie Lemercier, where they embody characters directly inspired by Thérèse Tanguay-Dion and René Angélil.
Like every winter for the past five years, Danielle Fichaud is currently in Lyon, where she teaches. When she got up on Wednesday morning, she had no idea that her students would have a reason to offer her a bottle of champagne.
“We were filming and my cell phone kept ringing,” she said in an interview with The Press. When Danielle Fichaud saw the name of the film’s press officer Aline, she answered. His reaction to his selection? “I didn’t believe him. I’m still completely flabbergasted! »
Cannes, the Caesars, for a little Quebecer from Saint-Henri, that’s something! I’m on cloud nine.

It was Danielle Fichaud herself who advised Sylvain Marcel that he was also nominated. It was then 4 am and he was having insomnia. “It’s rare that I don’t sleep,” says Sylvain Marcel. I fell from the clouds. It is an extraordinary gift. It’s still the French Oscars…”
“I’m glad the search engine helped Valérie find me,” he adds, tongue-in-cheek. We must indeed remember that it was by typing “comic Quebec actors” on Google that Valérie Lemercier found the one who would play Guy-Claude Kamar, inspired by René Angélil.
Sylvain Marcel also hopes to have the opportunity to shoot again in France. For her part, Danielle Fichaud has just played in the comedy merry christmas alongside Franck Dubosc and Emmanuelle Devos. “It went really well. I erase my accent a little, but I play a Québécoise. »
Xavier Dolan, for his part, was selected thanks to his presence in lost illusions, a film by Xavier Giannoli in which, in addition to playing a role, he provides the narration.
lost illusions, a sumptuous adaptation of the novel by Honoré de Balzac, is also named the big favorite in the race, being cited 15 times. Annette, by Leos Carax, is nominated 11 times, and Aline, a Franco-Quebec co-production, follows closely with 10 selections.
The feature films selected in the category of best film are Aline, Annette, North ferry, The event, The divide, lost illusions and Onoda, 10,000 nights in the jungle.
Valerie Lemercier (Aline), Leos Carax (Annette), Cédric Jiménez (North ferry), Audrey Diwan (The event), Xavier Giannoli (lost illusions), Arthur Harari (Onoda, 10,000 nights in the jungle) and Julia Ducournau (Titanium) are in the running for the César for best director.
