Each year, 22,000 children are victims of sexual violence at the hands of a parent. Children often damaged for life, even if some structures do everything to help them as best as possible to overcome this absolute tragedy.

Caroline was abused by her uncle when she was a child. After months of medical wandering, she is accompanied to the Maison des femmes de Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis). “I’m on leave, things are going badly at work”, she confides to her psychologist during an appointment. During the session, the professional will immerse the victim in his past to appease him. “I have always kept everything for myself since I was very little”, tells, moved, the victim.

“This traumatic memory did not integrate that it is over. There are parts of the person which will reactivate in daily life and which will feel as much in danger as at the time of the aggression”, explains the psychologist. Individual work is then continued in a group with a midwife. Patients come together to tell their story. “When I allowed myself to say ‘no’ I felt great”, remembers Caroline. Exercises are also organized to allow victims to listen to their body.
