Sweden’s Sara Hector, leader in the standings, won the women’s giant of Kronplatz (Italy) on Tuesday ahead of Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova. Arriving third, the French Tessa Worley signs her 35th podium in the World Cup. It is the Frenchwoman’s third consecutive podium in giant slalom after her victory in Lienz (Austria) and her second place in Kranjska Gora (Slovenia).
Starting with eighth place in the first round, the Haut-Savoyarde achieved a better second round, and a good performance in the final wall, less than two weeks before the Beijing Olympics (February 4-20), and in particular the appointment of this specialty scheduled for February 7th.
It’s not a perfect race but I still manage to get on the podium
“Kronplatz, the second run, it’s always a bit of a war, it’s dark, and especially on the last wall, it’s very important to really let go of the skis to make the difference, I knew it, and I I was disappointed with my first run, I couldn’t really let go, but I tried to give everything until the end”, conceded the French.
“I’m happy, it’s not a perfect race but I still manage to get on the podium, so I’m very happy, in front, it was skiing very hard, we’ll have to continue to work hard, and then put in the great atmosphere of the Games, I can’t wait, I really want to enjoy the event and on the day of the race we will have to give everything, as usual”.
In the general classification of the World Cup, Petra Vlhova, defending champion of the big globe, remains second (with 1,009 pts) but makes up for her delay on the American Mikaela Shiffrin (1,026 pts), fifth Tuesday at Kronplatz, at 81/100 by Sara Hector. Tessa Worley is 11th overall.
Before the Games, the speed specialists have two more races on the program, Saturday (downhill) and Sunday (super-G) in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Germany), before flying to China.
