How to keep morale up with this 5th wave?

The uncertainty in the face of deconfinement weighs heavily on the morale of the population, but there are strategies to better get through the 5th wave.

“We are in the month of January (…) it is very hard for people because we can more or less go outside. We add all the fatigue of the measures in the face of COVID, so people are extremely tired and extremely anxious, ”says Paul Langevin, psychologist.

According to the latter, it is the human contact that people miss the most. “Whether it’s going to see a show, having contact with people (…) having a happy hour or going for a meal. That, I think people are very excited, ”he explains.

Mr. Langevin also says he feels a certain impatience with the unvaccinated among his clientele. For many of his patients, people who refuse the vaccine are a bit “centered on their navel and not thinking of others”.

Still because of the crisis that has been going on for almost two years now, anxiety attacks are a new reality for many people. “People who didn’t have anxiety disorders now become stressed. They don’t see when COVID is going to end,” he said.

There are, however, ways to live well with the restrictions and uncertainty in the aftermath of the events surrounding the pandemic.

For example, making a plan and planning different outdoor activities is a way to reduce stress. “Make a plan, not too far in advance, but, let’s say within two weeks (…) this is what is essential to reduce anxiety”, advances the psychologist who sees it as a good way to regain some sort of control.

“I insist to people, go outside, even if it is very very cold. 10 minutes is plenty to clear your mind and make a plan,” he adds.
