“This Sunday morning, for the first time, my son cried”, says Bertier Luyt, from the hospital room of his 15-year-old son, Louis. Victim of a serious bicycle accident in Saint-Malo, Wednesday January 19, the condition of the teenager improved this Sunday morning but he will be hospitalized for a few more days, after having had his spleen removed. His father had launched a call for witnesses on the antenna of France Bleu Armorique to find the one who had called for help. A 25-year-old Malouin came forward and was able to discuss with Bertier Luyt.
The dad receives testimonies on accidents at the same place
“He is a very nice young man, who is training for the Paris half-marathon.” He is in full training when Louis leaves for his scuba diving course which he follows at the Naye swimming pool. The teenager then takes a bicycle over the bridge that spans the lock at the Saint-Malo port. He was the victim of an accident, around 7 p.m., of which the 25-year-old, who called the emergency services, was not a witness.
Louis’ dad is therefore still looking for witnesses to the accident. “The police will ask the city for access to the surveillance cameras that overlook the bridge and the port, but we are not sure that the cameras were positioned at the right angle…” Since his call for witnesses launched on social networks, Bertier Luyt has received testimonies from bicycle users who are victims of accidents at the same place.
“I am looking for people who have witnessed an accident on this bridge, which is already a black spot reported by cyclists.” Reports have also been recorded by the À Vélo Malo association. “Why does it take a victim of a serious accident to make people start asking questions?!”, regrets Louis’ dad.
