First of all we can already say: finally a Périgourdin in this series devoted to prehistory in Périgord
Indeed, Denis Peyrony was born in Dordogne and will become at the end of his studies teacher in Eyzies-de-Tayac.
He belongs to a generation of the beginning of the 20th century which accompanies a certain professionalization of prehistory and a certain heritage of prehistoric sites.
For example, he will resume the study of a certain number of sites in which Édouard Lartet had conducted research.
In fact, what is interesting about Peyrony is that there is a perfect continuity between his work as a scientist and his work as a facilitator of prehistory in the territory of the Vézère valley.
It is therefore to his credit that we must take the creation of what is today the National Museum of Prehistory, which Peyrony founded in 1918, and then in the process, three years later, he also founded the union of Eyzies initiative to promote tourism in general in the region, but also and above all prehistoric tourism.
