Two Ontarians in Stolen Vehicle Arrested After Police Chase

Two Ontarians arrested in possession of drugs and a prohibited weapon aboard a stolen vehicle, after a police chase at the Ontario border, will appear Friday morning at the Valleyfield courthouse, in Montérégie.

At around 2 a.m., police officers from the Sûreté du Québec noticed a vehicle with the engine running in a parking lot at a center for the elderly on Boulevard Hardwood, in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

The two occupants in their twenties appeared to be asleep, and when police attempted to wake them up, the driver hauled the vehicle over to hit a median, before heading westbound onto Highway 20.

A police chase followed for about thirty kilometers, before the vehicle came to a stop after having driven over a carpet of nails deployed at kilometer 5, near the Ontario border.

The driver who tried to escape on foot was quickly apprehended, while his companion in possession of a prohibited weapon did not leave the vehicle registered in Ontario which, after verifications, turned out to have been stolen. a few days ago.

The two license plates were not identical, said a spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

The police discovered drugs and several identity cards and credit cards in the vehicle, not all in the names of the two suspects, one of whom has a history of fraud.
