soon a giant EHPAD Perpignan

It is a state-of-the-art gerontological center which will see the light of day in the next two years in the Toremila business area in Perpignan: a building on three levels with 302 beds spread over several small blocks on a human scale, and where everything has been designed for the comfort of the residents, with individual rooms, large green spaces and a breathtaking view of the Canigou. A project led by the Perpignan Hospital Center and the Joseph Sauvy Association, a major player in the medico-social sector of the department, which have joined forces to create a Sanitary and Medico-Social Cooperation Group.

A vast building of more than 14,000 m2

This new Ehpad will have 302 beds for the elderly with a loss of autonomy or in long-term care, and will employ 200 full-time equivalent employees. in Perpignan, whose dilapidated premises are less and less suitable for housing the elderly.

A 40 million euro project entrusted to the Eiffage group and the Cabinet d’Architecture Chabanne, and co-financed by the Departmental Council, the ARS and the Ségur de la Santé with a building of 14,400 m2 which will be built on a plot of four hectares located Rue Guillaumet, in heart of the Toremila area (just opposite the Cémoi chocolate factory).

For families, visits will be made easier thanks to large car parks and a shuttle service that will make it easy to get to the city center. Caregivers will also benefit from better working conditions with more functional technical platforms for long-term care or rehabilitation, and rooms specially dedicated to continuing education in geriatrics for nurses, facilitators or caregivers.

Consideration of the pandemic risk

The eruption of the Covid has changed the initial project because the pandemic risk has been taken into account underlines Barthélémy Mayol the Director of the Perpignan Hospital Center:

“We have changed our project to ensure that patients who could be hit by epidemic episodes can be taken care of, with high oxygen flow qualities, which we do not have today in the structures. We thought of this project for that, that is to say both to make a place of life as pleasant as possible, with rooms adapted to the needs of the residents, but which can also be technical to be able to manage the care of patients who are in particular distress situations.

The end of the works and the inauguration of the new center is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023. The daily package, around 64 euros, will be similar to that of other public establishments in the department.
