McAvoy breaks deadlock late for Bruins
Charlie McAvoy scored on the power play at 19:15 in the third period Thursday to give the Boston Bruins a 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals.
Nic Dowd was punished for tripping, during the decisive wrist shot.
David Pastrnak scored twice and Jake DeBrusk scored the other goal for the Bruins.
Erik Haula had two assists and Linus Ullmark stopped 14 shots.
Brad Marchand appeared to injure his right shoulder in the middle period, not returning to play afterwards. Garnet Hathaway was charged for interference, having tackled him against the boards.
Evgeny Kuznetsov, Lars Eller and Nicklas Backstrom returned fire for the Capitals, while Vitek Vanecek made 29 saves.
Both clubs will play again on Saturday. The Caps will host Ottawa, while the Bruins will host Winnipeg.

The Flyers lose a tenth straight game
The Philadelphia Flyers lost their tenth straight game for the second time this season on Thursday, losing 2-1 to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Oliver Bjorkstrand and Patrik Laine hit the mark for the Jackets, helping Elvis Merzlikins’ cause (33 saves).
Gerald Mayhew was the Flyers’ lone scorer. Carter Hart stopped 27 shots.
The Flyers also lost ten consecutive games between November 18 and December 18.
Alain Vigneault, was fired as head coach after the eighth setback, replaced by Mike Yeo, on an interim basis.
The last team to lose 10 games twice in a single season was the Colorado Avalanche in 2010-11.

Dallas Stars return to winning ways
Tyler Seguin and Jason Robertson each scored twice in the Dallas Stars’ 5-4 win over the Buffalo Sabers on Thursday.
In the third period, their second goals equalized and then made the difference, respectively.
Seguin took advantage of a superiority at 12:23 and 4:05 later he was an accomplice to Robertson’s 15th goal. Again, a Sabers player was in the penalty box.
Robertson had just missed two games with a lower body injury.
Roope Hintz had the other goal for the Stars.
John Klingberg had three assists and Braden Holtby stopped 20 shots.
Dallas had lost three in a row (and seven in a row on opposing rinks).
Rasmus Dahlin, Dylan Cozens, Alex Tuch and Jack Quinn scored the goals for the Sabers who have lost their last nine games at home.
Eighth overall pick in 2020, Quinn scored with a wrist shot. He then took part in Cozens’ goal.
Tuch had an eighth point in as many games.
Aaron Dell made 42 saves.
