2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV: Five Things to Know

In response to the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet unveiled its new all-electric truck, the Silverado EV.

Here are five things to know about the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV.

Truck at heart

The Silverado EV is based on an all-new platform developed by General Motors, called Ultium. This architecture integrates the 24 battery modules into the floor, lowering the vehicle’s center of gravity.

Aesthetically, this Silverado sports a light strip that wraps around the hood and joins the slim headlights. The full grille, the contrasting color bumper and the angular C-pillar complete the styling package. 24-inch wheels and a fixed panoramic glass roof are optional.

In practical terms, the Chevrolet has cargo space under the hood, while the box measures 5 feet 11 inches. In the RST version, the storage capacity of the box is maximized thanks to a Multi-Flex intermediate tailgate. It offers just over 9 feet of length between the cabin and the tailgate when the latter is open.

Two motors, two powers

The Chevrolet Silverado EV has one motor on each axle. The bow-tie brand revealed two distinct releases.

The “Work Truck” or WT version develops 510 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque. It can pull loads up to 8,000 lbs and carry weights up to 1,200 lbs in the box.

The RST variant generates 660 horsepower and 780 lb-ft. Towing capacity is 10,000 lbs (4,534 kg), and payload is 1,300 lbs. In terms of performance, the RST does the 0 to 97 km/h in 4.5 seconds.

More than 600 km of autonomy

The Silverado WT and RST offer an estimated range of 640 kilometers. In addition, both can be connected to a 350 kW fast charging station.

According to General Motors, this would add about 160 kilometers (100 miles) of range in just ten minutes.

Equipped with many technologies

Adaptive Air Ride Suspension (optional) and rear wheel steering are among the many technologies found on board the Silverado EV.

The driver is served by an 11-inch digital monitor as well as the 14-inch head-up display. The infotainment system uses the new Ultifi software platform, based on Linux. The screen measures 17 inches.
