Our decks of cards consist of 52 cards and that’s no coincidence

The oldest playing cards originated in China, originally linked to divinatory practices. They appeared in France at the end of the 14th century, in order, it is said, to entertain King Charles VI.

The French 52-card deck would represent, a priori, the state based on four bodies, represented by the four suits or suits: hearts, spades, diamonds and clubs. It would be a political and military allegory, which I won’t dwell on because I don’t have time.

But there is obviously something troubling about the numbers: if there are 52 cards, it probably corresponds to 52…
