“I lost hope”, “I will not vote out of conviction”… Three students tell of their disappointment three months before the presidential election

In a cafe in the city center of Le Mans, in Sarthe, Maelann, Aimée and Ryan discuss the partials they are about to take. All three law students, they admit to being tired of the political offer and the presidential campaign.

Ryan, 23, isn’t sure if she’s going to vote. “The blank vote does not count. And if we don’t agree with the people running for president, we can’t vote. We have the choice between plague and cholera and I don’t like to make that choice. Since I was 18 it’s always the same thing“.

Convinced by none of the programs“, Ryan would like to vote white”but since it is not really recognized, it is useless“.

Personally, I lost hope in the vote.

Maelann, 23, shares Ryan’s observation but still wants to vote. “I’m going to vote but I don’t know what at all and that’s what’s a bit sad. This is my second election and I’m not necessarily going to vote based on my ideas but based on who has the potential to win. And for the second round, it’s always the same: we’re going to vote for the least worst and it’s frustrating.

In this election I might vote strategically.

For Aimée, 21, this will be her first vote. Like Maelann, the young law student also thinks of making a strategic vote: “It will not be a vote of conviction, which is extremely unfortunate as it will be my first vote.”

I didn’t vote before because I forgot to make my proxy.

Like Ryan, Aimée would like the white vote to be counted.
