The Head of State spoke on Wednesday January 19 to MEPs in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin) to discuss the priorities of the French presidency of the European Union, but it is the presidential election that has invited itself into the debates.

In front of the European Parliament in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), Emmanuel Macron wanted to show on Wednesday January 19 that he was the good student of Europe. But behind the battle for Europe was the battle for the presidential election. The Strasbourg arena was an opportunity for the President of the Republic to confront his French adversaries, starting with Jordan Bardella, of the National Rally. Then he crossed swords with Yannick Jadot, candidate of the Greens.

Faced with these passes of arms, the president lost patience. “This is not a national debate. We need to discuss the European priorities of the French presidency”, insisted Roberta Metsola. The skirmishes continued with Manon Aubry, from insubordinate France to the right with François-Xavier Bellamy. In all, four hours of debate in Strasbourg, like a taste of the presidential election.
