According to the webzine Deadline, the Korean director is in talks to write, direct and produce the still unnamed feature film which will be funded by Warner Bros. Studios. According to some sources interviewed by the site IndieWire at Warner, Bong Joon Ho read the manuscript of Mickey7, after which he met several actors interested in the title role, meetings at the end of which one name clearly stood out, that of Robert Pattinson, star of the next Batman, which is slated for release on March 4. An offer was made to the 35-year-old British actor before New Year’s Day.
The novel Mickey7, which will be released in February, centers around the story of an employee deemed expendable within a human expedition to colonize the freezing planet of Niflheim. When a mission is deemed too dangerous — or even suicidal — we turn to Mickey. When one of its iterations dies, another is regenerated in a new body, though most of its memories are retained. After being killed six times, Mickey7 goes missing on a routine mission; he manages to find the base only to realize that we have already created Mickey8…
The project Mickey7 will be the second collaboration between Bong Joon Ho and Warner Bros, with the director serving as executive producer of a TV series based on Parasite which will be shown on HBO.
