The government has said that it takes into account the concern of French consumers over soaring fuel prices. On Wednesday January 19, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Lemaire spoke about the possible implementation of new measures.
New measures could be considered in the face of soaring prices at the pump, according to the statements of the Minister of the Economy Bruno Lemaire, Wednesday January 19 on RMC: “I will continue, as I do every day, to monitor fuel prices (…), and see if there are additional measures that are necessary”, he said on the television set. Among the possible avenues, there is the request for a gesture from fuel suppliers, or the reduction of taxes.
According to several experts, a reduction in fuel taxes could be very expensive for the State. “If we drop just one cent, the French are not going to be particularly happy. It takes about ten cents for it to make sense. Ten cents is five billion, so the room for maneuver for the State are still extremely limited”, explains Jean-Baptiste Hequet, energy expert at Sia Partners.
