Announced as a revolution, 5G does not keep all its promises, a year after its launch.

Sarah X lives in the Paris region. She experiences 5G, with a package five euros more expensive than a 4G subscription. “Maybe the connection is faster, but I haven’t seen any big changes on a daily basis.” Is this price difference justified? The fluidity is similar on many social networks between 4G and 5G connections. Contacted, the operators remain timid on this question.

Is this 5G a revolution for the general public? Not yet, the network is still under construction in France. Outside the big cities, it is difficult to find 5G antennas. “The 4G network is about 20,000 antennas, compared to 4,000 to 12,000 for 5G”, says Guillaume Decorzent, head of the mobile coverage and investment unit at Arcep (Electronic Communications Regulatory Authority). Professionals are the first to benefit from the advantage of 5G, in particular transport or medical applications. All French people should be equipped with this network by 2030.
