Timo Meier’s team record helps Sharks beat Kings

(San Jose) – Timo Meier set a team record with five goals as the San Jose Sharks crushed the Los Angeles Kings 6-2 on Monday.

Meier recorded his hat trick even before the first period was over. He set his record with just 27.1 seconds left in the second period.

Joe Malone holds the NHL record with seven goals and he set that mark with the Quebec Bulldogs in 1920. Seven players have already scored six goals in a game.

According to NHL statistics, New York Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad was the last player to score five goals in one game. He had achieved the feat on March 5, 2020, against the Washington Capitals.

Rudolfs Balcers had a goal and an assist while Tomas Hertl had four assists for the Sharks, who had only one goal in their last two outings.

Erik Karlsson had three assists, including the 500and of his NHL career. James Reimer, making his first start since Jan. 4, blocked 39 pucks for the Sharks.

Anze Kopitar and Mikey Anderson replied for the Kings, who had won their last four games. Jonathan Quick gave up six times on 17 pitches.

Donato found the back of the net at 2:02 into the third period to bring the teams back to square one and flash the red light in the second round of the shootout. Donskoi — stuck with no goals in 38 games — beat Marc-André Fleury in the third round to give the team the win.

The Kraken hadn’t tasted victory since the Dec. 14 game against the San Jose Sharks.

Philipp Grubauer blocked 25 shots for the Kraken.

Fleury was the best player on the ice for most of the game and did everything he could to bring the game to a shootout. He stopped 35 shots, including 14 in the third period alone.

Dominik Kubalik and Brandon Hagel rattled the ropes in a losing cause.

Kuemper was injured when Wild forward Jordan Greenway made contact with him in the semi-circle. Kurtis MacDermid defended his keeper by dropping the gloves with Greenway.

Kuemper stayed on the ice for a few minutes but stayed in the game before being replaced by Francouz midway through the second period.

Mikko Rantanen had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche and was the only one to find the back of the net in the shootout. Nathan MacKinnon also had a goal and an assist.

Alex Newhook added a net for the Colorado squad, which posted a 14and consecutive home win.

Kirill Kaprizov moved the strings twice for the Wild. Kevin Fiala also scored as Kaapo Kahkonen finished the game with 36 saves.

In the extra period, Larkin took advantage of a turnover from defender Henri Jokiharju and fired a precise wrist shot from the top of the slot.

The Red Wings trailed 2-0, but tied the game with two goals in a 3:07 interval halfway through the third period.

Vladislav Namestnikov closed the gap to one goal and Larkin tied the game for the Detroit squad, which defeated the Sabers for the second time in three days. Alex Nedeljkovic made 26 saves.

Jokiharju and Jeff Skinner hit the target for the Sabers, who suffered an eighth straight loss at home. Aaron Dell stopped 32 pucks.

Few people have seen the great comeback of the Red Wings. A blizzard hit the Buffalo area and kept crowds limited to about 1,000 at KeyBank Center.
