For the past few days, the number of hospitalizations in critical care has been decreasing, a decrease linked to the crossing of the curves of the Delta and Omicron variants.

In the midst of a pandemic, some signs of hope. For the past few days in France, the indicators of the epidemic have prompted cautious optimism. Incidence rates are beginning to decline in Ile-de-France, Corsica and Mayotte. At the national level, if hospitalizations are on the rise, those in critical care have been falling for 48 hours, as are emergency room visits. “At the Samu of the Seine-Saint-Denis which is one of the departments that are very impacted, we are past from 1200 files per day to just over 800″, explains Frédéric Adnet, medical director of the Samu de la Seine-Saint-Denis.

Encouraging signals and less pressure on hospitals confirmed by Martin Hirsch, the boss of the AP-HP. Optimism remains tempered, as this fall in the indicators would be linked to the simultaneous trajectories of the curves of the Delta and Omicron variants. “The decline is related to two factors. The Omicron wave has not yet reached hospitals and the Delta wave is decreasing”, says epidemiologist Philippe Amouyel. The scientific council calls for caution.
