Xiaomi Buds Pro 5 Earphones Unveiled at MWC Barcelona
Xiaomi made a splash at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona with the announcement of its latest audio innovation, the Buds Pro 5 earphones, following their successful launch in China. These earphones come in two distinct versions: the standard model and the Wi-Fi variant, both designed to deliver exceptional sound quality. Featuring a sophisticated triple coaxial speaker system paired with a dual amplifier, the Buds Pro 5 promises an unparalleled audio experience. This innovative setup includes an 11 mm dynamic driver that enhances bass with its dual magnet structure, a PZT tweeter for pristine high frequencies, and a planar speaker that offers a broad frequency range with minimal distortion.
Advanced Technology for Superior Sound Quality
The standard Buds Pro 5 version utilizes LE Audio Bluetooth technology, enhanced by Snapdragon Sound and the Qualcomm aptX Lossless codec, providing 48 kHz/24-bit digital signal processing and a transmission bandwidth of up to 2.1 Mbps. The Wi-Fi version takes it a step further, featuring lossless audio transmission at 4.2 Mbps, resulting in impressive audio quality at 96 kHz/24 bits.
Both models benefit from expert audio tuning by the Harman Golden Ear team, featuring two tailored equalization profiles to achieve optimal sound balance. Additionally, users can enjoy a dimensional audio feature, which can be customized through head and ear movement tests for an immersive listening experience.
The Buds Pro 5 earphones also incorporate advanced hybrid active noise cancellation (ANC) technology, reportedly achieving up to 55 dB of noise reduction, according to tests conducted by the National Institute of Metrology of China. Users can adjust the ANC levels to suit their environment, whether they need to minimize office distractions or block out city noise.
On top of that, these earphones boast smart AI-driven features. Starting in the second quarter of 2025, users can expect translation and transcription functions activated with a simple gesture, enhancing usability. Additionally, the Buds Pro 5 includes a handy audio recording feature, enabling users to capture important discussions by pressing the case button three times—though it’s essential to inform the other party about the recording.
Design, Battery Life, and User-Friendly Controls
The standard Xiaomi Buds Pro 5 are available in Ceramic White and Titanium Gray, while the Wi-Fi version comes in a sleek Translucent Black. Each earphone weighs a mere 5.6 g, ensuring comfort during extended use.
Touch controls make it easy for users to manage music playback, calls, ANC settings, audio recording, and voice assistants with a simple tap. Swipe controls also allow for effortless volume adjustments. Moreover, users can customize these functions through the Xiaomi Earbuds app, available for both Android and iOS devices.
With Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, the earphones have a range of up to 10 meters and support simultaneous connections to two devices, providing enhanced flexibility. For a perfect fit, users can choose from four pairs of ear tips in various sizes.
Regarding battery performance, the standard model offers up to 8 hours of playback on a single charge, while the Wi-Fi version claims up to 10 hours. However, these figures are yet to be confirmed through real-world testing, particularly since Wi-Fi usage tends to consume more energy than Bluetooth. When paired with the charging case, both models promise a total battery life of up to 40 hours. Fast charging capabilities also allow for 4.5 hours of listening with just 10 minutes of charging for the standard model, and 4 hours for the Wi-Fi version.
As for pricing, the new Xiaomi Buds Pro 5 earphones are available at €219.99 for the Wi-Fi version and €199.99 for the standard Bluetooth variant.
