How has French society evolved?

By dint of having the head in the handlebars, do we no longer see society evolving? “We wanted to address the subject in all its aspects. There are different social categories, different lifestyles and places of life. It’s an overall picture before the next presidential election”, explains on the 23h set of Franceinfo Jean-Laurent Cassely, essayist and journalist, co-author of “France under our eyes” published by Seuil. “We were keen to tell what happened after the Glorious Thirties. It is a historical reference in France and it is sometimes difficult to tell the rest”, he continues.

“We have seen that the face of social categories has evolved. The factory worker has given way to the logistics worker, for example”, says Jean-Laurent Cassely. A lot of changes, therefore, but some particularly marked the author: “In rural France there are many country clubs. This kind of American folklore has taken root in France since the 80s and 90s and globalization”.

A France that is evolving but becoming more and more individualistic. Politically too, there are clear changes. “The parties have changed. We are seeing the emergence of new ways of life with the question of food. (…) Today small subjects such as housing or the car are becoming political subjects”, he finally points out.
