Getting Into the Sport: A Passion Rooted in Family

When asked how they came to the sport of ice stock shooting, many team members highlighted their family connections. Monika Kahry shared, “I began when I was around eleven, took a break for ten years, and returned in 2017, which has led to a surge in our team’s success.” Karin Schwarz added, “My parents are both involved in stock sports; my father was a youth coach.” Verena Gotzler echoed this sentiment, saying, “I was introduced to the sport through my grandparents and dad, starting at around ten years old.”

Magdalena Katzensteiner noted her brother’s influence, “I started at twelve, inspired by my brother. Success in the U14 encouraged me to continue, and even after breaks for motherhood, my passion has only grown.” Victoria Rumpler mentioned, “I watched my dad play before I began at twelve, and my early wins in U14 sparked my interest in the sport.”

As for advice to newcomers, Schwarz encourages curiosity: “Be curious and give ice stock sport a try.” Rumpler, the youngest member, added, “Stay persistent; if you enjoy it, you’ll keep at it.” Katzensteiner agreed, saying, “Success follows practice.” Kahry encouraged newcomers to “have the courage to shoot and not give up if things don’t go perfectly right away.” Gotzler emphasized the importance of persistence: “In stock shooting, everyone has their own technique. Just keep practicing, and the successes will follow.”

The team is now looking ahead to their next challenges. Schwarz expressed excitement for the upcoming women’s state league, eager to start with renewed energy after a brief winter break. Kahry is vying for a spot in the home World Championship, while Gotzler is preparing for her own competition, saying, “Monika and I will be opponents, but we can handle it maturely.” Katzensteiner is focused on achieving gold in the upcoming summer state championship, showing unwavering support for her teammates.

Balancing sport and life commitments is crucial for these athletes. Katzensteiner shared, “Family support is essential. My older kids and relatives help out, and it motivates me when they cheer for me.” Kahry reiterated the importance of a solid support system, especially as she prepares for the World Championship. Victoria Rumpler is currently managing her time as she completes her final exams while participating in the sport. “Everyone must commit time; we rely on each other,” summed up Gotzler.

As they conclude their celebration, the team expressed heartfelt gratitude towards their fans. Gotzler remarked, “We are incredibly proud of our supporters. It’s rare to find such dedicated fans, and we appreciate their contribution to our success.” Katzensteiner added, “Their support is phenomenal; they are always there for us.” Rumpler emphasized the strength of their club, and Kahry concluded with pride in her teammates, looking forward to the upcoming season and the unity they’ve built.
