Nigeria at the rendezvous of the 8th
The best team in Group D already has its sights set on the round of 16. Saturday at the Roumdé Adjia stadium in Garoua, Nigeria made a show of power, especially in midfield, against Sudan. In the footsteps of captain Joe Aribo and Leicester player Wilfred Ndidi, the Super Eagles dominated the game head and shoulders.
Samuel Chukwueze from the start of the game (1-0, 3rd) then Taiwo Awoniyi, on a lucky header (2-0, 45th), gave their selection the advantage in the first period. Upon returning from the locker room, Moses Simon added a third goal (3-0, 46th), before Walieldin Khedr’s penalty score was reduced (3-1, 70th).
With six points out of a possible six, after their inaugural victory against Egypt (1-0), Nigeria reaches the final phase and is guaranteed to finish in first place in group D. Augustine Eguavoen should logically rotate its workforce to the last match of the group stage, next Wednesday against Guinea-Bissau (8 p.m.).

The Pharaohs regain hope
It took almost 70 minutes to see Egypt break free against Guinea-Bissau. 70 minutes of inefficiency, evidenced by the two posts hit by the Pharaohs in the first period. Fortunately, captain Mohamed Salah was there to conclude with a volley with his left foot on a ball stung in the back of the opposing defense (1-0, 70th).
The goal canceled at the very end of the game by Mama Baldé for a foul by the latter at the start of the action will remain difficult to swallow for the Bissau Guineans. The latter have a chance of qualifying, including as the best third in the group, in the event of success against an already qualified Nigeria. Egypt, it will have to validate its ticket against Sudan.
