Marine, a 24-year-old from Lille, recently won Star Academy, following Pierre Garnier’s success. She has been nominated for the Victoires de la Musique and is preparing for a tour with fellow contestants starting March 7. While reflecting on her career, she expressed her desire to perform under her first name only, dismissing the use of her last name. With new music on the way and high demand for her performances, Marine’s future looks promising.
Marine’s Triumph at Star Academy
It has been a week since Marine emerged victorious in the final of Star Academy. The talented 24-year-old from Lille triumphed over Ebony, following in the footsteps of Pierre Garnier, the season 11 winner of 2024, who is currently basking in success. Marine was recently awarded a trophy at the NRJ Music Awards and has received a nomination for the prestigious Victoires de la Musique, scheduled for February 14, coinciding with Valentine’s Day. The celebrated Norman artist made waves last year with his hit “Ceux qu’on était,” and his debut album “Chaque seconde” has already surpassed 100,000 sales. The big question remains: Can Marine garner the same level of support?
Challenges Ahead for Marine
The journey to sustained success is not guaranteed for every Star Academy winner. Some, like Magali Vaé, Cyril Cinélu, and Judith, found that their fame was fleeting. Conversely, others have solidified their status as prominent figures in the French music industry. Jenifer is back on tour, Olivia Ruiz is also hitting the road, and Mosimann is producing for popular artists like Grand Corps Malade. Nolwenn Leroy has even ventured into acting with the series Brocéliande. These names resonate widely, underscoring the significance of a memorable stage name, which can often carry hidden meanings.
Consider the iconic Patrick Bruel or the enigmatic Yodelice and Zazie. The true identities of legends like Johnny Hallyday and Mylène Farmer add to the intrigue. Pierre Garnier opted to retain his surname after leaving Dammarie-lès-Lys castle. Will Marine Delplace follow suit? She has made her stance clear: “I don’t want to use it as an artist name,” she shared with RTL over the weekend. Although she acknowledges the complexity of the issue, she expressed a desire to keep it simple: “I just want to go by Marine. That’s how people have known me for three months, so I might struggle to change.” Marine also admitted, “It’s true that finding an artist name can be challenging.”
In a light-hearted comparison, Marine noted that she finds Pierre Garnier’s surname “more stylish than Marine Delplace,” and she is not particularly inclined to use her last name as her stage name. This suggests that her first album could very well feature only six letters on the cover!
In a recent conversation with TF1, following her triumph, Marine reflected on the success of her debut single “Ma faute” from 2022, and she confirmed that she has more music in the pipeline. “There are other songs on my computer that I wrote around the same time,” she revealed, adding that some are just lyrics while others are purely instrumental. “I need to pull all that out, but there are quite a few. Another one is also completely finished,” she noted, though she did not specify any timelines.
As she looks ahead, Marine is set to focus on her next endeavor, which will require her full attention. Alongside six fellow contestants, she is gearing up for a tour at the Zenith, commencing on March 7 in Amiens. Due to overwhelming demand, additional performance dates have already been added, signaling an exciting future for Marine!
