This decision is the result of the combination of Covid-19, recent injuries and players leaving for the African Cup of Nations. All clubs can request a postponement if Covid-19 infections are a factor in their request.Arsenal had just 11 players from their professional squad available to face Spurs.
The accumulation of postponements is debated in England. Gary Neville, former Manchester United defender and consultant for Sky Sports, had spoken out in favor of stopping reports linked to Covid-19. “It’s not specifically about Arsenal, but all teams should be forced to play from now on” he wrote on social media on Friday evening. Last week, Arsenal saw their League Cup semi-final first leg postponed for seven days at the request of their opponents, Liverpool.
