Leoben City Championships: A Bowler’s Showcase
During the first week of December, the Kammersäle Donawitz hosted the Leoben city championships, drawing approximately 100 bowlers. The event was organized by the Mayr-Melnhof-Novopan sports club, led by Berndt Nahrgang and section leader Johann Stabler, along with their dedicated team.
Despite the fierce competition, only one male and one female bowler could claim victory. In a thrilling final, Tanja Pröll triumphed in the women’s category with an impressive score of 553 pins, while Gerhard Plank emerged victorious in the men’s category with 609 pins. Among recreational bowlers, Monika Prodinger (535 pins) and Herbert Moder (537 pins) were the standout performers.
Success at the Antalya Muay Thai Cup
From December 4 to 8, athletes from across the globe converged in Antalya, Turkey, for the prestigious Antalya Muay Thai Cup. Among the 538 competitors from 28 countries were two representatives from KSF Gym Leoben. Rebecca Hödl, competing in her tenth international tournament this year, previously secured third place at both the World Championship in Patras, Greece, and the European Championship in Pristina, Kosovo.
Rebecca, fighting in the -51kg category, delivered a stellar performance against a Turkish opponent, advancing to the finals where she claimed victory in a sensational match. Elisabeth Hauzinger, competing in the -71kg category, faced the reigning European champion from Hungary and took home the silver medal. European top referee Günter Plank also played a significant role in the event.
Austrian athletes performed remarkably well, finishing the tournament in second place overall, behind Turkey, with a tally of two golds, one silver, and two bronzes. “The outstanding performances at the international level reflect the extensive experience and exceptional support provided by the coaches at KSF Gym Leoben,” remarked chairman Günter Plank. As the KSF Gym team enjoys a brief break, they look forward to resuming competition on January 4 at the upcoming Fight Night in Weiz.
Challenges for ESV Leoben Bowlers
In a rescheduled match from the first autumn round of the 1st Bundesliga East, ESV Leoben faced off against the current table leaders, KSK Klagenfurt – Magdalensberg. Unfortunately for the Leoben team, it proved to be a disappointing day, with the final score ending at 1:7. Gerhard Plank was the standout player for ESV Leoben, scoring 598 pins.
The bowlers will return to action on January 11, 2025, with their first spring round match against KSK Klagenfurt – Magdalensberg, set to take place at home at 1 PM.
Mika Wurm Claims Styrian Championship Title
The Styrian Championship in sports climbing (lead) unfolded recently at the climbing hall in Mitterdorf, where Mika Wurm from Trofaiach clinched the title for male participants in the U14 category. The 12-year-old showcased exceptional endurance and technique, navigating challenging climbing walls reaching heights of 19 meters. His impressive performance propelled him to victory, leaving his competitors in the dust.
FC 2000’s Successful Autumn Outing
In delightful weather, FC 2000 KFZ Winter Leoben-Lerchenfeld enjoyed their annual autumn outing recently. A group of 22 members traveled by bus from Trofaiach to Altenmarkt, stopping for coffee at Gasthaus Post before heading to Grosramming for an exciting experience with “Floß und Co” by the Dorninger company. The team was warmly welcomed and boarded a spacious wooden raft designed for up to 40 people.
The participants enjoyed a leisurely two-hour ride on the Enns, complete with delicious grilled specialties, making this year’s autumn outing a memorable success for FC 2000.
Boxing Achievements at KSF Gym Leoben
Last weekend, the ASKÖ State Championships in boxing took place at KSF Gym Leoben, featuring eleven thrilling matches in Olympic boxing. Athletes from various ASKÖ boxing clubs, including Powerjab Weiz, WSV Liezen, and KSF Gym Leoben, showcased their skills. The day was filled with triumphs for the Leoben athletes: Nino Dalipovic secured the state championship title in the Youth category up to 80 kilograms, while his teammate Nicusor Ciorcirla took second place in the Elite category up to 71 kilograms.
Additionally, KSF athlete Tatjana Zivkovic-Hirtler made a successful ring debut in a sparring match against Graz’s Zoes Karner, while Rebecca Hödl also engaged in a sparring match against Sissi Lamprecht (BU Heros Graz).
