Kim Clavel delivered an impressive performance, defeating Mayela Perez by unanimous decision in a ten-round match at the Casino de Montreal. This victory marks Clavel’s third consecutive win following recent setbacks. Although she won’t compete for a world title immediately, her team plans to prepare her for a potential title shot by May 2025. The event also featured Marie-Pier Houle’s unanimous decision win and successful debuts from several prospects, with another boxing night scheduled for January 30.
Kim Clavel Shines in Dominant Victory
This week, boxer Kim Clavel made headlines by showcasing her skills in an impressive match against Mexican fighter Mayela Perez. The main event, organized by the Yvon Michel Group (GYM), took place on Thursday night at the Casino de Montreal, where Clavel’s prowess was on full display throughout all ten rounds.
After experiencing two setbacks in 2023, Clavel (20-2-0, 3 K.O.) celebrated her third consecutive win, triumphing by unanimous decision against Perez (20-28-4, 10 K.O.), who has not been knocked out since 2010, despite her challenging record. Clavel’s ability to land powerful combinations kept the audience engaged, and while Perez put up a strong defense, she ultimately could not withstand Clavel’s onslaught.
Looking Ahead to Future Fights
Following her victory, Clavel expressed her satisfaction, stating, “I wanted to implement everything we practice in the gym, and I succeeded. I was mobile, and I saw everything clearly. Performing in front of a crowd adds a different dimension, and I’m proud of my performance.” She humorously noted, “I brought out my entire toolbox: the hammer, the round saw, the screwdrivers. Kim is back!”
However, Clavel’s promoter, Yvon Michel, and her coach, Danielle Bouchard, confirmed that she will not be competing for a world title just yet. “It won’t be immediate,” Bouchard clarified. “After a 10-round match, her body requires adequate recovery time.” Michel added that the plan is to provide Clavel with a series of varied fights to ensure she is fully prepared for her title shot in the future, aiming for readiness by May 2025.
In the evening’s semi-final, Marie-Pier Houle (11-1-2, 3 K.O.) also shined, fighting through a tough match to secure a unanimous decision victory against Anissa Benyoub (7-5-0, 0 K.O.). With this win, Houle is now on the cusp of a potential title fight. “I had a solid opponent. Her punches didn’t hurt me, and I’m pleased with my performance,” Houle remarked, after receiving favorable scorecards.
In an exciting night for GYM, several prospects made successful professional debuts. Sherbrooke native Loïck Lahaie (1-0-0, 0 K.O.) achieved a unanimous decision win over Ruslan Barma (0-1-0, 0 K.O.), while former kickboxing champion Facson Perrine (1-0-0, 1 K.O.) knocked out Drew Stuve (1-1-0, 1 K.O.) in the fourth round. Additionally, 19-year-old Ukrainian talent Kirill Bazhenov (1-0-0, 1 K.O.) secured a technical knockout victory in his debut against Alex Gagnon (0-2-1, 0 K.O.).
Mark your calendars, as GYM will host its next boxing night at the Casino de Montreal on January 30, promising more thrilling matches to come!
