the Friends of the Moulin de Gô need volunteers following the damage caused by the floods

The Friends of the Moulin de Gô association are calling for volunteers. At the beginning of October, the flood seriously damaged this mill located in Saint-Pierre-sur-Erve, since it brought with it a lot of waste (stones, wood, etc.), which damaged part of the spillway, that is to say from the basin upstream of the wheel. _”We did not expect it at all”,_deplores Françoise Portier, the association’s treasurer.

The mill has been shut down for more than three months

The mill has not been running for more than three months now. And the waters of the last few weeks have not helped, since little work has been done. “The big problem is this hole at the spillway, explains the treasurer. A lot of water has arrived at the mill. Trunks of trees got in the way on arrival at the mill, which caused damage since the water was diverted, making vortices and which damaged the weir.”

Volunteers who are mostly retirees

Usually, the volunteers of the association are trying to renovate this mill with their own hands. They have already repaired the floor, the wood of the wheel, stones… But there, repairing the basin upstream of the wheel is a bit too much for these volunteers who are mostly retirees. “You have to go in the water, the pebbles, you have to move them, so indeed, when you reach a certain age, it starts to be a bit difficult.” And for the association, it would be best if it were repaired quickly, before the start of the tourist season in the spring.

They are therefore calling for everyone’s help. “If there are people who have knowledge of masonry or woodworking, it would be very useful to us.“. And, she repeats, everyone is welcome in the association.
